Destroy vs disableDisabling compartments knocks systems offline but the crew can repair and respawn at the captain's quarters. To permanently remove a Trampler from the match, destroy the reactor (the smoking exhaust weak point) or eliminate the captain tile after boarding.
Black box lootA destroyed reactor drops a black box — high-value PvP loot tied to the walker's identity. Capturing the hull intact can yield the same prize without turning the rig into scrap.
Defending your own rigArmor spots, crew quarters spread across decks and a compact reactor footprint make boarding harder. What extraction savesOn a successful extract, items in your pockets, anything stowed in Trampler cargo bays and equipped weapons return to your station stash. Scrap spent building compartments on a lost walker does not — only extracted valuables count.
Storm Dive extraction sitesExtraction POIs unlock in waves during a Storm Dive match. Early sites are safer; later sites — including high-tier radio towers and the Dreadnought approach — roll better loot but attract more traffic. Compare templates in the POI catalog . Three NZ Mk2 energy rods are guaranteed at each untouched extraction exit — grab them before someone else clears the spawn.
Rope evacSome extractions require deploying a rope or zip line from the Trampler to reach the evac point. Park with clearance to spare, secure the line before enemies cut you off, and don't leave cargo on the walker if you're evacuating on foot.
Disconnects and crashesIf you disconnect mid-raid, your character may remain in-world for a grace period. Rejoin quickly and head for the nearest extraction — don't assume your loot is safe until you're back at the station screen. Pick your region and queueFrom the station, choose a Sophie region and whether you want Storm Dive or Voyage . Storm Dive is the timed competitive raid with rotating extractions; Voyage is the open-world loop for farming scrap when you're broke or learning the map. Solo players often queue into a full party slot by mistake — check the party size before you launch. You can crew someone else's Trampler as a deckhand without owning a hull yet.
Your first TramplerThe Expedition hull is free and enough for your first extractions. Keep the layout minimal: one reactor, steering console, captain station and a small cargo tile. See the curated solo budget build for a free-hull reference layout, and the build rules for hard compartment caps.
What persistsScrap in your station wallet, researched faction unlocks and blueprints you've learned stay between runs. Gear on your person and cargo in your Trampler only return if you extract successfully . Treat every outing as risking everything you're carrying.
Early loot prioritiesDig buried treasure mounds in Voyage for safe starter scrap. Check extraction sites for guaranteed energy rods. When you're ready for higher risk, browse the rare spawns reference and cross-link any item page for POI and landmark hints. Voyage farming loopSwitch to Voyage mode when you can't afford another Storm Dive loss. Dig every buried treasure mound, crack open resource crates and sell crowns at the pawn broker back at the station. No timer pressure means you can loot at your own pace.
Crew instead of captainJoin someone else's Trampler as deck crew. You keep a cut of extracted valuables without paying the rebuild cost upfront. Useful when you're one bad fight away from zero scrap.
Cheapest rebuildsThe Expedition hull is free; Walker Roster 6 costs about 100 scrap and fits a compact solo layout . Skip luxury compartments until your wallet recovers — one reactor, steering and captain tile is enough to extract again.
Contracts and crownsStation contracts pay crowns for deliveries and extractions. They're a steady income stream that doesn't require winning PvP fights — pair them with Voyage farming when you're rebuilding. Storm DiveTimed competitive raids with rotating extraction sites. Loot tiers improve as the match progresses — late extractions near the Dreadnought and radio towers hold the best rolls. Expect PvP around every high-value POI.
VoyageOpen-world Sophie without the Storm Dive clock. Safer for learning landmarks, digging buried treasure and refilling scrap after a wipe. Less contested POIs, but also fewer jackpot extractions.
When to switchRun Voyage until you can afford to lose a Storm Dive loadout. Once your wallet and build are stable, alternate — farm in Voyage, push high-tier extractions in Storm Dive.
